It was Autumn when Adam passed away. After a lengthy battle with cancer, he was finally free. I first met Adam when he was 22. He was a spirited young man. He had solid convictions, ideas about where he was going and how he was going to get there. Over the next 5 years, he worked on the dock as a longshoreman, working his way to foreman of a gang of twenty men. He was admired by his gang, co-workers and bosses alike.

One day it happened, the coughing, the gasping for breath. The doctor said it was cancer, lung cancer. Adam was devestated, but quickly grew determined to beat the cancer at any cost. After a battery of tests, chemotherapy treatments, the cancer turned out be terminal. The cost was his life. I still remember his smile. He was a man of great integrity.
